Visibility of Add New Topic Link

Hi,

In settings, there is an option to restrict posting new topics to certain user roles. I have a question and an issue!…

(1) Does this simply restrict the posting of new topics? Are other user roles able to add comments and replies to existing topics?

(2) Having restricted posting to the Admin, Author and Contributor roles, the add new topic link still appears to those with the Subscriber role, and even logged out users. Admittedly, when they click on the link, they have an access denied message. This is not very friendly! Is it possible to have the link simply removed for those who are not allowed to post?

    1. At the moment, posting and replying require the same permission level but I do want to introduce a different permission option for commenting. Just not yet.

  • Hi Phil - just to let you know that I'll implement an update to the 'Add new topic' link for users without the correct permissions in the next release. That'll be the week after next.
