Hi - you can only edit or delete from the back-end, as an admin.

No, then you can't edit from the front-end.
any chance / extension to add this function?
I don't have this planned at the moment.
and one more thing, how the admin get notice when a new comment or topic is created?

Go to Settings > Discussion and check that 'Email me whenever' is selected.
